Hi my name is Tom Cain. I've found in this business, that clients want to know who they're working with. Here is a little background. At the end, I hope you understand who I am. I look forward to meeting you as well! I was born in Champaign-Urbana and have lived my whole life in Champaign County, Illinois. My father owned a Real Estate company in Savoy and my mom was the Postmaster of Savoy for almost 30 years. I grew up around the real estate business. My parents owned several multi family and commercial buildings which taught me about the power of leveraging money and showed me that through appreciation of real estate prices that you can build your wealth for retirement. I graduated high school in 1977 at Central High school in Champaign, Illinois. After graduation I went to work at Kraft foods on 3rd shift for 13 years. One night at work I was working up on a platform where I was cutting bags of salt into a large kettle with a stainless steal agitator going around. The lid to the tank fell inside the kettle and before I could move my hands the lid cut my right hand from my wrist to my fingers. I was taken to the emergency room and while the doctor put 64 stitches in my hand he noticed that I had nuero muscular problem. He asked me if I had problems picking things up and I said yes but I thought I was only a little clumsy. He order a test to be done on me where they take a needle hooked up to an electrode an stuck the needle into my nerves up and down both sides of my body and would then shock me to see how much nerve loss that I had. When they where done with that test I went to an occupational therapist where he told me that I have a form of Muscular Dystrophy called Chariot Marie Tooth disease. He said that I would be disabled from Kraft in one year and be in a wheel chair in ten years. When I heard that I stood from the doctor and said "You don't know me and I don't plan on going into a wheel chair." Within 12 months after my accident I had to disable out of Kraft and as I turned in my keys and paper work the human resource person said by the way because you have been employed for over 8 years you will remained cover medically through Kraft foods with zero cost per month. That was the day in my life when I realized what the picture of "Footprints in the sand" meant. It was like God showed me a new way of life. From than day in 1989 I began my Real estate career and am happy to say that I am still not in a wheel chair and own one of the most successful Real Estate Teams in Champaign County. I publish a periodic newsletter that is informative to my clients. I work very hard to maintain a high level of professionalism and I spend a great deal of time and financial resources to keep ahead in this rapidly changing industry.
